Thanks for your patience,
folks! Here's the update,
and hey, it's been a while since we saw that technique! :)

Okay, 2:00am. Time for bed. Good night. :'D See you folks on Thursday!
Gladewalker 6th Jun 2017, 2:11 AM edit delete reply
Yes. Staying up is worth it XD

Awww Balzy's so cute when he's trying to kill you and at the same time not killing you. Better come up with something quick Kylie! That leaf for example, must be his weakpoint!
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:25 PM edit delete reply
What were you doing awake at 2:11am Gladewalker!!?! XD;;;

And gosh, so many people want to attack that leaf! XD it's probably easier to just target his whole face if it comes to that... :P
Gilrandir 6th Jun 2017, 2:29 AM edit delete reply
Gareth has that "I know something you don't know" look, which is apropos, considering that Gareth is the World Guild examiner for the Knight Division. Go Kylie! (I wonder if Gareth has any money on this match? ^_^)
Lukkai 10th Jun 2017, 8:58 AM edit delete reply
I think he's quite sure in Kylie having something still up her sleeve and is considering both what it might be and what that would mean for her chances to win. He's got that kind of contemplative look on his face that I would expect of someone analysing the match so far and how it might go on with that kind of tactical thinking.
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:27 PM edit delete reply
@Lukkai: Pretty much! :) He's putting himself in Kylie's shoes, too.

Though to be fair, Gareth is exactly the kind of opponent that Balzac would have trouble with. He's a bit of an 'iai' style, if that makes any sense. XD;
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:26 PM edit delete reply
Gareth didn't bet on this match, but he's still interested in the outcome, and in making fun of Balzac. XD
MST3KFan 6th Jun 2017, 4:35 AM edit delete reply
Seems like every move at this point is a gamble for Kylie against Balzy.

And whatever she does, if she wins this match, what can she look forward to in the next? ^_^;
Lukkai 10th Jun 2017, 8:59 AM edit delete reply
And in what kind of state will she be in?
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
She may or may not be in this kind of state, but no promises. XD
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
Oh dear, I set up many expectations for people here didn't I... XD;;; well, if Kylie can pass this point, I'm sure it'll be all smooth sailing, right? ;D

The damage is going to stack up on them both! This feels like a battle of endurance!
Gilrandir 7th Jun 2017, 12:22 AM edit delete reply
I feel like a battle of endurance favors the self-healer. I think Kylie is going to try for a damage spike to end the match quickly.
Lukkai 10th Jun 2017, 9:02 AM edit delete reply
Definitely so. Kylie must find a way to end this match quickly. With an attack that either does enough damage to crush him at once. Or at least enough damage and with a short enough cooldown that further attacks of her will damage him faster than he can heal. (Chances of her being able to do the latter are pretty much zero at this point though, so she would have to go for the former.)

Another possibility is of course any kind of attack that displaces him and does so far enough to send him out of bounce. Such an attack would not even need to do any actual damage, just send him flying.
Gilrandir 11th Jun 2017, 12:21 AM edit delete reply
A 'ring out' attack would be a good tactic, if she had anything like that in her repertoire. Possibly in combination with something that debuffs knockback resistance (even at the cost of reducing damage done).

Unfortunately, until now, Kylie has been all about damage, and things like knockback attacks are generally deprecated by damage types. You want to be able to go "Bad Guy --- WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!", not "Bad Guy -- WHACK! ... slog, slog, slog ... WHACK! ... slog, slog, slog ... WHACK!"

She might have a debuff for armor/damage resistance -- but you'd expect a battle cleric to have their own techniques for offsetting or countering that.
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:31 PM edit delete reply
@Matt: I think I probably should've made it more obvious that Balzac was healing himself in the second panel! XD; It pretty much boils down to what Gil and Lukkai discuss in this comment thread. Self-healers are so annoying! :P

Ruuufffiiiii <3

please do not overdo it... *huggus*

Kylie I hope you can manage that...

rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:32 PM edit delete reply
I gotta overdo it a little bit! But don't worry, pulling muscles once in a while is alright. I just gotta make sure I don't tear any ligaments. ;)

And as I said before... you know how Kylie manages this. That is to say, she doesn't. :'D

Audacity__ 7th Jun 2017, 12:15 AM edit delete reply
just slap the leaf out of his mouth and kick him down as he scrambles to pick it back up
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
Dat embarrassing and awkward moment when you realise, as you slap the guy, that the leaf is superglued to his lip and he sobs 'I've been trying to get rid of this blade of grass ever since Ruby glued it there for months now! Nothing works!' and the moment of sympathy stops you from taking advantage.
Proxy170 7th Jun 2017, 12:25 AM edit delete reply
Ah, the down side to not sharing your least you know he won't actually kill her in this tournament.
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
That's certainly one silver lining! XD;;;

But yeah, when you operate on a need-to-know basis, sometimes things backfire... -v-
CiciEnixa 7th Jun 2017, 8:49 AM edit delete reply
Kylie, I have two proposals.

#1 Wait until the minute has passed (or seconds before the minute passes), then while he's so proud of himself, STRIKE HIM DOWN!

#2 Uh... use your well-honed cleric insult skill that you practiced on Cain?! Maybe?!?! Or tell him something incredibly funny and off-putting to distract his focus like... I dunno, "he got abs so rock-hard, Kina can only dream of having an anvil that strong"?

Throwing it out there, some possibilities besides full-on brute force, ya know? (yes, I cried writing this i'm sorry XDDD)
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
#1 might work if Kylie knew about Ruby's 'incentive'... XD

#2, well... you know. XDD
I'm crying too. :'D
Jarvi 7th Jun 2017, 4:31 PM edit delete reply
Ruuuubyyyyy why do you have purple hair standing next to someone who has red hair, it hurts my brains xD
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 10:58 PM edit delete reply
Would it be worse if she was standing next to Cain, who has much redder hair? XDD
Seabiscuit 8th Jun 2017, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 10:58 PM edit delete reply
Ah, the next person... heh heh heh heh heh
Yes, be very worried about that... ;D

Gareth's dialogue has so far consisted of ".....!" and "...."
Will we get a "...?" on the next page, I wonder? :p
Just_IDD 8th Jun 2017, 11:53 AM edit delete reply
He's a man of simple punctuation. I wonder if he knows that she is a knight already of another guild?
Lukkai 10th Jun 2017, 9:04 AM edit delete reply
You've got to admit the man knows how to make a point!
(Or several.)
Gilrandir 11th Jun 2017, 12:24 AM edit delete reply
I think we must assume he will continue to make periodic comments as the battle goes on. ^_^
Gilrandir 11th Jun 2017, 12:29 AM edit delete reply
Then again, since he has already seen Kylie simultaneously use two foci, we shouldn't be surprised if Gareth indulges in elliptical dialogue. ^_^

If Kylie's gamble works, Ruby might yet be able to cash in.

And Briar's in Marshmallow Hell? Well not really, he'd have to turn around for that. Close enough though.
rufiangel 17th Jun 2017, 11:02 PM edit delete reply
I'm afraid that would be a rather Muscular Marshmallow Hell? XD;;;; Kina doesn't have much marshmallowy-ness there, much to her own chagrin when Briar never reacts the way she'd want him to XD ('Kina, you're heavy... last time you did this, I had dreams about being wrestled by a luna-bear.' I rather imagine Ruby finds this hysterical, but then she's not particularly well-endowed on her 'marshmallow' bits either, which results in Kina and Ruby fighting it out by glomping Briar to their chests and demanding a rating, and eventually leads to the Defender whacking both of them on the head and dragging Briar away from their influence. Yikes, where did that all come from? XD)
